Hi All,

Having my Nest thermostat installed next week and told the sparky I’d run a cable from where the heat link will go, to the thermostat location to save on cost/time.

I know it powered via 12v, which cable (preferably something I can pick up from Screwfix or Toolstation) will do the job?

Cheers

Thanks Muggles.

I’ve read some people say I can use alarm cable, sounds a bit like a bodge to me so would rather do a proper job.

Any reason it should be used? Instructions state it can be fitted where existing thermostat is located? Also, is this what you use for OT?
The cable provides both power and data communication. By using screened cable, it prevents external electromagnetic signals affecting the integrity of the data stream. And yes, it is what's used for OT. Existing thermostat wires are sometimes used instead, but as the OP is intending to run a new cable anyway they may as well at least use the correct stuff
