I have been searching for an electrician to do a CU upgrade and decided to use the Local tab on this forum. But am I just unlucky or does no-one actually offer their services there? I have entered all possible ways of describing my location, but to no avail.
The forum's Local tab doesn't seem to have any electricians - in London!

Shame really, as I've had lots of helpful advice on many of the DIYnot forums and I would expect that at the very least I'd be able to find one person who might do my job. I'm easily accessed from most areas south of the river (and a few 'up north'.)

I dont do private work but been here 12 years and did not even know there was a local tab, so maybe others don't know either
Personal recommendation is always best! The OP is going to need a registered electrician for his job and that site lists all of them. Better he looks there than on MyBuilder etc..

As you will presumably understand, my concern was that many people might think/assume that anyone who is on the list of "registered electricians" (particularly because it is a list of "competent persons") is necessarily 'competent' or even 'recommended' in some sense. Onw would hope that would be true but, as you know, it's unfortunately the case that some of the worst examples of poor work (and, particularly 'bad EICRs') we see reported here were perpetrated by people on that list.
Like you, I generally say that 'personal recommendation' is the best, but usually add a caveat that even that is, unfortunately, pretty useless. Most members of the general public (i.e. most people) can only recommend in relation to such things as neatness (of visible work), tidiness, pleasantness/politeness, punctuality/reliability, reasonableness of pricing etc. etc., but generally won't have a clue as to how satisfactory (or even necessarily safe) is the electrical work they have done.
For most people, there therefore seems, unfortunately, to be no particularly ideal solution.

EICR being done next week - Trusted Trader who got back to me. Will the following be a fail? I'm trying to anticipate what might come up and have identified a few things.
1.Double sockets mounted on skirting boards.
2.Downlights in kitchen and bathroom not fire-rated.
3.Electric oven (2.99KW) plugged into ring main.
4.Kitchen and entire downstairs on one circuit.
5.9KW shower with 60amp main fuse.
6.Double socket under kitchen sink.
7.No RCD protection (except on shower circuit).
House was re-wired in 1985 so probably that part will pass.
