I think Max deserved the win. He, and all the team, have battled throughout the season. A very spectacular race and hopefully next season will bring more now that Hamiltons domination has been broken. I'd like to see George Russel perform in the same way Sainz has for Ferrari.

About time someone else won the championship, Hamilton has nothing left to prove.
 
Well, I said this in July. He did buck up but too little, too late. Oh well, he'll just have to try again next year and pick up another £50m or so while trying.

The race admin changed the rules about restarting during the course of the race, during a restart, which happened to hand the championship to MV.
The competition is a formula which is rule-bound. Is race admin allowed to change rules that way?

I'd prefer to back Horner than Wolff, but on this I'm with the Germans. Respect the rules and the teams paying a lot of money to abide by them, don't change them for the sake of a better spectacle.
 
It seems he did abide by the rules but there is another which says he has the discretion to over-ride them if he sees the situation warrants it.
Throughout the season, (in fact for quite a number of seasons), the word from the teams as a whole has been, "We want to race." Wolff is reported at one stage as saying there was no need for the safety car. Really? A bad crash with debris over the track and he sees no need for the safety car? Maybe he would have been willing to do the stewards job and try to clear the scene with cars flying past at up to 200mph?
 
I think it was a fair decision, the remaining lapped cars weren't in positions which made point scoring differences, and so there was a race on the last lap it didn't make sense to let all the cars through.

Ham didn't give up his advantage when he went of the track and the stewards decision went his way.

I'm surprised Perez was retired, even Perez sounded surprised.

Shame Norris had so much bad luck.

Riccardo better get in shape next year otherwise he's going to have to be shown his p45.

What would have been the outcome if the stewards HAD let the cars through? Would MV still have caught him?
 
If FIA were so keen for it to finish under green flag conditions, they should've red flagged after Latifi crash, you can't just make up rules as you see fit to "put on a show"

I would've been happy to see either of them win today. HAM was clearly better on the day. Just a shame it has been tarnished by poor stewarding / race director.

Toto didn't do himself any favours trying to influence the stewards decision. Litteraly begging them not to pull out the safety car,

You have to be ahead of the other car before going into the corner to be able to 'claim' the corner and choose the racing line.

You are also required to leave the other car sufficient room on the track, which Max didn't do. It was a classic block pass, but Max only just made the corner himself with 2 wheels off the track. If Max had been able to turn a little earlier (which he either couldn't or chose not to) then it should have been a penalty or a requirement to give back the position.

While leaving the track to gain an advantage is against the rules, so is forcing/crowding a car off the track. That, and it was the first lap, is why I think there was no further action on the incident.

However, like with all of these things whichever drive you support will influence your bias.

It would seem the race directly did not entirely follow the FIA's own rules.

Did this breach affect the outcome of the race? Probably.

Is the breach bad enough to warrant some change to the result? Probably not.

Seems there will be a further appeal by Merc and it could end up in court, which is a rubbish way to settle an exciting championship. I hope Lewis might tell them to let it go for the good of the sport, as ultimately it's his championship/race that was lost not the constructors championship...

Even in defeat Lewis (and his dad) were gracious. Not like last weekend when Max stropped his way off the podium...
