I can only see live and neutral wires in My current ceiling light and the new one I purchased seems to have space for Earth too. As I can only see blue and brown wires can I assume the Earth is behind the light fitting.

Have you bought the correct fitting? It looks like a lamp fitting.

I’m slightly confused, most light fixtures have a live and switched, and possibly earth, and also there’s an earth symbol on the B&Q fitting.

Do you have a link to the fitting you purchased?

So does the current one.

Yes, unless very old.

You will need some 3 core flex(ible cable) instead.

Hi All, so I removed my old light and it seems like one wire I presume Earth it just left exposed. Is this dangerous?

It should have a piece of yellow/ green pvc sleeving over it. Having it NOT connected to a light fitting that DOES require earthing is potentially dangerous.

Whatever you are doing in connecting the conductors from the ceiling to the light fixture, you need to connect the "Earth" (bare copper) conductor from the ceiling to the "Earth" (middle) connection of the Three - Two terminal "screw connectors" on the light fixture.
(The bare copper "ceiling" conductor should be "sleeved" with "Green-Yellow" plastic sleeving (because the UK has not yet instigated "insulation" on Earth conductors which is the equivalent on the insulation on the Line and Neutral conductors of TPS cable.)

You will need to use (at least) an additional two terminal connector and a Green-Yellow insulated conductor to perform this function.
