Problem is John that just imposing a no fly zone is tantamount to an act of war, if we did impose one we will at some stage be forced to shoot down a Russian aircraft which would be a total declaration of war and possibly the end game. The USA ain't going to do it, the mighty EU ain't going to do it, I'm not sure why some on here feel that Boris should go 'full tonto' and do it?

It's odd that the only interview early on when it was being called for that bought this factor up is AlJ. I'd suspect the choice of banks also relates to who's money they are holding.

The total effect of all of the sanctions depends on transaction difficulty in Russia and how self sufficient the country is. The most serious sanction may be the Russian state bank. Switzerland joining in is interesting. However there are indications that Iran has had the same sanctions for rather a long time. The USA decided to settle a debt with them and the only way they could do that was fly the money there. The UK has one too. All goes back to arms when the Shah was in charge. Some stuff never arrived. Their revoultion will have seized western assets.

Oligarchs though - lets face of it all countries have them, all nationalities. All do "things" with their money paying tax is something they world rather not do. Companies can be very similar.

I think any Russian exporter collecting foreign currency for sale of goods has to hand over that currency in exchange for 80% of the value in roubles, something like that.

It is a link about the the opinion of a Professor of Anti-Corruption Practice at the Centre for the Study of Corruption, in which he says "There is more corruption and corruption risk in and around this government than any UK government since the Second World War."

But as every police officer knows, when you catch somebody up to no good on several occasions, they are almost always found to be lots more illegal activities.
Some people are law abiding, and some are not. Some are ethical, some are corrupt.

So I stand by my opinion that it is both possible and likely that our government is bent.

There was a no-fly zone over Iraq, Libya and over Bosnia.
Only the Bosnia no-fly zone had UN backing.

But there was little real danger in enforcing those zones.
Enforcing a no-fly zone over Ukraine is something that no countries are willing to do, or even contemplate raising it at the UN to protect civilians.
