What have you turned off to save energy?

I cancelled all the timed heating a while back. We now just switch it on if/when we need it, which obviously isn't a lot at the mo. I also reduced the hot water to 20 mins a day. I thought I would start low and ramp it up 5 mins at a time if we ran out of hot water - but we haven't yet. Three of us in the house.

A lot of stories about today about people unplugging kettles because they think they are using phantom electricity. I'll bet the number of kettles that have anything in them using leccy when switched off is vanishingly small.

Heating, air purifying filters, doing more meals in the microwave, not a lot else I can think of.

Mine did. Switched it off as it was the only thing wasting electricity.

I am now switching off the microwave at the wall, along with most other things that are not used much.

No, I think it's battery and if the meter uses 5g that does too. Or if not what ever it does use. The meter installer was embarrassed a little when he passed it over and explained what it did. He should have thought about vampire devices. Slightly useful - maybe.

If found - that could turn out to be unlikely I'll have to use a torch to read it. Also battery power might turn out to be my thoughts about how it should work.

my old sony 42" flat screen uses 100w in use
slighly newer samsung 42" uses 44w
lap top 22w
24" in my workshop 19w
so i have the option off saving money by choosing a different tv or laptop

900w microwave clock on 2w light on 22w full power 1650w
most modern items are less than 1w in standby

if we assume a unit off electric costs 27p then you can equate that to 1w average 10 hrs a day will cost around £1 a year so watching the smaller tv in my workshop compared to the front room for 10 hrs a day average will be the difference between £100 and £19 so £81 or a free tv in less than 2 year

Just bought my wife one of these:

She's completely clueless and unconcerned about the cost of anything and at the slightest feeling of chill she just puts the heating on while I sit there in shorts and t-shirt. If she's in from work for half an hour before going out for the evening she'll advance or +1hr the heating which means it just starts getting warm when she leaves.

The mantra is "Heat the body, not the house."

We have a semi commercial microwave - no light inside, and I believe opening the door switches it on as the display etc shuts down a minute after its finished cooking.
