Yes, thats the figure I had in mind - In the context of an extension I wouldn’t call it a massive extra over cost.

It’s when the inspector insists on changing from concrete floor slab to block n beam when it starts getting expensive when combined with deeper founds.

The biggest nuisance is having to reschedule everything
Should always use block and beam where foundations need to be more than 1.5m deep.

My plans stated 600mm wide 1 meter deep footings. The quote came in based on that. When they started to dig, they ended up having to go to 1.8 meters. It cost me an extra 900 quid. That was about 6 months ago. But my footings were only across the back and down the side, ie 2 sided and not 3.
 
The change in depth will most definitely have a big affect on our budget due to the size of the extension ive posted a picture of the extension foundation plan below. Darker Outline is the current House:
