My property is on a slope, and the small back garden faces out down the slope. The garden is level, and retained by walls on two sides, made of 2.6m x 125mm x 250mm sleepers which may be pressure treated or reclaimed , wedged into steel I-beams. The bottom of the garden is retained by a 1.75m high wall about 4m long, and the wall at the side is also about 4m long and starts at 1.75m high but gets shorter as it approaches the side of my house. Theres a panel fence on top of both walls.
From what I can tell, earth sits directly against the sleepers, there is no membrane or gravel and no drainage channels I can see. Digging away a bit, the sleepers feel wet and some of the sleepers have started to rot, a few cm have crumbled away from the inside on some of the ones at the top level.
I’m also a bit concerned that some of the sleepers don’t go more than a couple of cm into the I beams and the wedges are rotting.
I'm pretty worried that the whole wall might fail and my garden will collapse. Its only 6 years old. Does it sound like it could fail, and if so what can I do?
