Masking tape for textured vinyl floor?

Are there any effective masking tapes for a textured vinyl floor. I want to apply a neat silicone bead between skirting and the floor and using frog tape leaves a bobbly edge.

The floor fitter used a tape when he applied some, but he’s no longer contactable!

Have you tried using a profiling tool (in conjunction with a spray bottle of dilute washing up liquid)?
