Zion and the Art of Armageddon

Beats me why these ships don't employ an army unit with a few 50 cals. Helis and little boats wouldn't go near them. The squads could move between ships as they approach the area.

I believe the strait carries some oil.
Well yes, but it doesn't tend to go in containers.

Well yes but Iran at times has threatened to shut the strait down.

Seems brent crude has gone up in price. ~$90 at the moment from about $83 at the start of the year. Thought to be nothing to do with war. More OPEC+ wanting more money. Problems in water ways often cause price increases and it seem the pirates are active again as well.

Yes I know I bought gold a couple of weeks ago, as shown elsewhere, and play with the oil prices. Made a few thousand.
No doubt the Iranians did more. It pays for their guns.

It seems Iran has seized an Israeli owned container ship.
Strange how that it was noted as being against international law, but not so with israel's strike on a foreign embassy in a third country...

Which is also against international law!

the ship was a commercial vessel, conducting trade in international waters.

The Embassy in Damascus?

Legality

Diplomatic premises, like homes and schools, are considered "civilian objects" under international law, and they are not permissible as targets unless they are used for a military purpose. Diplomatic buildings are entitled to further protections from attack or other interference by the host country under international customary law, codified in the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the 1963 Convention on Consular Relations.[20] It is the obligation of the country in which an embassy is located to protect the embassy, but international treaties do not expressly prohibit a third country to target diplomatic premises if they host combatants and are targeted in an act of self-defense, although a claim of self-defense cannot usually justify an attack on the territory of a country not participating in hostilities.

The general pundit view on the embassy attack is that Benjamin wanted more we are surrounded with enemies arguments to distract from Gaza and also the West Bank problems. A distraction in other words. He knows that the US will back him. It appears Iran approached the security council about the attack looking to see if they would agree that it was unlawful. A report says veto via US, UK and France. If not it seems Iran would have been happy,

Generally as far as Israel is concerned the US are using double standards.

The other thoughts about the embassy attack is that it puts the US in a difficult position. No one wants a general war in this region. Oil prices would go through the roof. Iran wont want one either. There relationship with other countries has been improving. Even the US by trying to prevent strikes on US bases.

All fine and dandy but the group that talk about this sort of area is the diplomats. So have these pundits picked this up from them or is it all guess work.

Edit Also it all helps him retain his position. Something else to worry the Israeli as well.

Israel closes schools and related even universities for several days and no gatherings of over 1,000 people. A siren will sound..................
That might limit civilian deaths via shot down missiles that still go bang or ... pass.

Biden suddenly ends his holiday. Needs to talk to his security people.

A member of the Labor Party in opposition to Netanyahu writes...

We must not allow Netanyahu – who is accused of criminal activity including fraud, bribery and breach of trust (he denies the allegations), who made dangerous alliances with extremists to form his government, and has even attempted to turn Israel into a de facto dictatorship through his government’s controversial attempt to pass “judicial reform” – to dictate our relations and divide us. We need to make a clear distinction between this extremist government and the people. When US vice-president Kamala Harris was asked if Israel is at risk of losing American support in the war, she replied that it is important to distinguish between the Israeli government and its citizens, and she is absolutely right. The Israeli people are entitled to security – as are the Palestinians. Israeli citizens are the ones thwarting Netanyahu’s authoritarianism, we are the ones holding him back in this moment.

To the citizens of the US and the entire world, especially those of Jewish descent, I have one request: do not abandon us. Stand with us as we strive for a better tomorrow, for Israelis and Palestinians alike. A liberal-democratic government is not a distant dream but the will of the majority. Together, we can forge a path towards peace and security, fulfilling the aspirations of all who call this region home.

All fine n' dandy sentiments but i see the dogs of war are slipping the leash and wonder if America has the diplomatic power to reduce tensions in the middle-east - Egypt, Jordan and Qatar are doing their best but all their efforts have made little difference since Christmas.

Egypt takes US aid. Jordan, Quatar, Saudi Jordan and the Emirates as far as I know don't. The Abraham Accord got them all talking to Israel but there seems to be another factor as well. A Palestine state needed for them to fully accept Israel. Iraq - pass but some time ago their gov broke down. Looks like an NI type set up was established and it broke down. Syria well it's Syria. It needs money and will accept any that provide it. No takers as far as I am aware.

A supposed US view. If Saudi fully accepts Israel the others will fall inline. In the past there has been some leaning towards Russia type aspects but pass on how many/which of the countries were involved.

I saw a bit of the Iranian attack last night. Not that wide field views of Tel Aviv or Jerusalem were much use. The number of streaks in the sky didn't appear to relate to a full blown drone attack. Some pundits saying well I got it wrong - this wasn't what I expected.
