Can you advise how I can tell the difference? They are in the wall so they are difficult to see clearly. Thanks

Breezeblock requires drilling to make a hole while it’s possible to push a screwdriver into thermalite .

I take it you have 12mm plasterboard dabbed onto thermalite blocks?
depending n how close to the edge of the mirror you have. Cut a bit of 18mm wood 3 inch square, chisel out a 3 inch square out of the plasterboard, attach wood to blockwork then attach mirror to wood. Hopefully it will all be hidden by the mirror.
The problem you have now in trying to attach the mirror directly to the blockwork is that any fixiig long enough will probably be too fat to go through hole in mirror.

Can you post a pic of the mirror fixing method as we are blind to what you are trying to hang?

Thanks everyone, I've found this thread really useful — I've created a similar problem for myself when trying to hang a c. 18 KG mirror and now have an oversized hole I need to fill (the wall is red brick with plasterboard in front).

I'm going to try filling the hole with the Anchorset Red 300 that was suggested on the previous page, then push in the rawl plug. Will this work with a plastic rawl plug, or will the Anchorset get inside the plug meaning I then can't get the screw in?

You must of course drill through the plasterboard and the air, and fix into the brick. You will need quite a long screw.

Sorry what I meant was, if I push a plastic rawl plug into the Anchorset before it's dried, will the Anchorset go into the rawl plug, thus making it impossible to screw into?

I don't use Anchorset, but I push plugs into other adhesives. You can use the screw as a handle. The plug should preferably be slightly below the surface of the wall.

Do not drive it home until set.

Just drive a long screw into the thermalite , wall plus don’t hold in it even with glue as expansion just cracks the thermalite.
