My local one, C2C, is perfect. Trains always clean and on time. Why the hell that needs renationalising is beyond me.

Why can’t they renationalise the failing water and energy companies? When the transport minister was asked that question, her only answer was that it wasn’t in the manifesto. Well it f'cking should be!

I don't know if nationalising the railway will improve services and save money, but we must remember that the contractors have enjoyed some crazy terms which makes them winners in all cases.
During pandemic London underground lost 90% of revenue but the shareholders still had to extract money from the budget, they don't care if the company is not making a profit.
That's why there's a £3billion hole in tfl accounts.
That's what I've been told by an RMT high rank official, so it might be a biased view.

The franchises RUN the services but they don't actually own the service - so NO money changes hands so its not re-nationalising

Last year about £26 billion was paid from UK taxes for railway network and services by us tax payers.

Foreign companies and governments, and some are registered in tax havens!

The franchises are run by companies, they don’t own them. Huge difference, hence why it’s very misleading for Labour to say that they are being renationalised

They were all nationalised during Covid when they basically went bust.

With inflation currently at 2.3%, travelling by train will cost more in real terms.

The difference between privatised services and nationalised ones is profit. Profit isn't a concern with nationalisation so a saving sll round

I have friends whom work in higher positions at TfL, yes, the covid reduction in trade has left a black hole, but who are the sharehoders that you refer to? AFAIK, there are no private shareholders in London Underground.
