1st Feb 25% tariff on Mexico + Canada, 10% on China

The crazy thing to me is that I have just been reading that the whole CUSMA (which replaced NAFTA) is up for review next year. Why couldn't Trump just wait a year and do it in the normal way?

Trump calling for Canada to be 51st state is a dead cat.

Actually it’s not even a dead cat, it’s just Trump scatter bombing….the idea is if you throw out so much sh1t nobody knows what’s true and what is BS
Maybe not the best article to link to. I was referring to this, not the 51st state thing:

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he would "not back down in standing up for Canadians.” He set out "far-reaching" tariffs of 25 percent, which will start with $30 billion worth of U.S. goods on Tuesday. Then, the tariff will impact another $125 billion worth of U.S. goods in 21 days to give Canadian firms time to adjust.

And I think I read that they are aimed at Trump's base in the red states, for whom Canada is the biggest export market.

I think, well I don't think I know as we all do, he wanted to be seen as doing something from day one, actually many things. To that end he's delivering no doubt. However as for the consequences of what he's doing? It'll be very interesting to see how it's all going to play out ...

Trump certainly makes politics more interesting….as long you aren’t in America having to deal with the sh1tstorm.

Tit for tat tariffs are mutually assured destruction

They will hit people’s lives very quickly……

My guess is that Trump will cancel them quickly claiming that his bully tactics have won.

He can’t keep the tariffs going….they literally increase prices for Americans

18% of American exports go to Canada.
77% of Canadian exports go to the US.

I wonder who will suffer most?
And back down first

If you believe that, try taking guns from 'murcans, and report how you get on (y)

As you might say,

Yes, exactly

;)

Completely different thing

You have heavily armed private armies in Mexico
Machine guns mounted on the back of pick up trucks

US may well be heavily armed and full of fruit cakes but nothing like the organised chaos that occurs in Mexico and other Latin American countries

Little short of terrorism

Mexican army on the streets

Yep. You go on holiday to Mexico and the resort you stay at has heavily armed personal security covering the entire area.
You don't get that at Disney Land.

The level of violence that some of these gangs meet out in Latin America would put Isis to shame

Compared to the drug cartels Isis are a bunch of amateurs when it comes to violence / killing

And yet they still hold PGA golf events there (Mexico) but the PGA and the European tours, won't touch Trump courses with a bargepole.

go figure.

Some one I know went to Brazil if they went on walk about there was always an armed guard following them a few yards back

They were advised not to wear jewellery in particular rings

Cases of tourists having there fingers cut off
