Hi all

I am laying new porcelain floor tiles in my toilet, and have a spare bag of Mapei floor and wall tile adhesive.

It says this is suitable for ceramic and quarry tiles, is this a dead no no to use for porcelain?

Many thanks

OP,
Its, as you say, a no no - your not supposed to use it. Mapei make a white porcelain adhesive - white is often best for porcelain but why not check with Mapei, tell them what porcelain you have.
However, if your porcelain is not see-thro then, for a toilet floor, why not just go ahead and use it?
Follow the instructions on the bag for mixing.

Don't use it.
My friend did thinking that it was only for 2 tiles and after a year or so they fell off.
Porcelain adhesive dries chemically a far as I understand and it's different from ceramic adhesive.

Poster #4,
How porcelain would fall off a floor is difficult to visualise?
The OP's Mapei powdered adhesive is a cementitious thin set adhesive - it will stick porcelain or ceramic just about anywhere.

please explain what will and won't stick , horizontal and vertical. Which is a NO NO and which is a yes.

Yes, thats right - where did I say It wouldn't stick? Why dont you read and understand - if you are unable to understand then why not ask me to explain "watch my lips" things to you?

It says not suitable for porcelain on the back of the bag (third paragraph)...

Poster #3. See post #9.

I have no idea why they don't recommend it for porcelain. I suspect that it might be something to do with porcelain not being porous (whereas ceramic and stone tiles are).

I tend to trust the manufacturer rather than someone on the internet who ignores the manufacturer's advice.

Have you ever heard of WALL tiles?
Imagine having a wall covered in tiles that stay up by the magic of tile adhesive.
Now imagine using the wrong adhesive...
If it's easier to imagine, go to extreme = tiles stuck with Pritt paper glue...
They'll eventually fall off ==》from the wall to the floor for effect of gravity.
You can find the concept of gravity on google: fascinating!

Poster #10,
I already knew that it wasn't "suitable for porcelain" thats why my very first sentence says so - but perhaps you haven't read or, more likely, dont understand what I've posted or why I gave alternatives in my post?
FWIW: I tend to trust people like myself who have wall & floor tile qualifications, and had worked as a tiler.
I tend not to trust those who appears to be some kind of advanced internet googlers.

In English please.
