Ruth Ben-Ghiat, a history and Italian studies professor at New York University and author of Strongmen: Mussolini to the Present, describes Trump as “one of the most successful propagandists in all of history”, as skilled as the former Italian dictator Benito Mussolini in his use of images, symbols and repetition.

She said: “The cult of personality is that you must be omnipotent but you’re also omnipresent, you’re everywhere. It’s not just old-school dictatorships like North Korea today or communist China where the face of the leader is everywhere.

“Nowadays, for example, Modi in India is the most followed leader in the world. He’s a genius at Instagram. When he ran for office in 2014, he used holograms so he could be in a hundred places at the same time. Being everywhere and inescapable is part of making the population depend on you and on no one else.”

What is grim is how far and wide his propaganda can reach.

This forum is an example…… a few on here are excitedly lapping each and every instalment of the propaganda.

These are grown men who are probably highly experienced, dedicated tradesmen, eg; heating engineers who are able to diagnose complex problems……yet hear they accepting what they hear without checking if it’s true.

Why do hate this country so much?

You need to make one or more of us the enemy, take what we say out of context and distort it so you feel justified in making bogeymans out of us to finger for the acts of politicians none of us have any control over.

It has been explained before that if Americans don't like what is happening they will voice their thoughts in the mid terms. We are not due to vote in our next general election until 2029 at the latest. We all have time between now and then to watch the political landscape. I intend to absorb it and comment along the way until then, like everybody else I expect.

I like some of the stuff Trump and co have done, some I am dubious about. Do you need to make me into your personal voodoo doll and stick pins in me because I do or can you stomach I have a mind of my own.

All politicians are frequently economic with the truth.
All politicians often have ulterior motives.
All politicians could listen more and talk less.
