Being a convicted criminal (other than self defence etc) should remove any right to be an MP

As I understand it that is the case if the sentence is more than12months imprisonment. That would have been justified given the aggravating factor that he was a drunk MP, but he wasn't charged with abh so max sentence is six months.

He deserved a lot longer sentence. I suspect any other member of the public would have received a stiffer sentence. I feel certain he will be a very popular inmate and will have quite a welcoming party.

what judge? it was a magistrates court and he pleaded guilty.

Difficult one for Starmer. Resignation is the right thing to do but politically, It would suit Starmer for it to drag on as long as poss.
