Labour thug jailed.

This is the problem with putting these sorts in prison. They don't believe that they should get the same sentence as any of us. Appealing his sentence hoping to be let off as he has had a day in prison now and it is enough. I hope he doesn't get a reduced sentence. The man is a thug.
"any of us" would be getting a suspended sentence for punching somebody in all probability

so you are saying he should get off

that isn't true - the judge categorised it as A2 - he should have got longer. Did you read the sentencing remarks?

thats true but the Lords can keep sending it back

the Lords might be unelected but they often do improve legislation and hold govt / parliament to account

I agree its far from satisfactory, its a system that can be manipulated and is by both sides............and by those rich enough to effectively buy their way in like Lord of Siberia
Parliament Act(s) say otherwise.

What did the bloke ( victim ?) say to him that caused him to kick off ??? And duff him up

I think they can only block it for 12 months.

Would have to check, though.

Also, the Lords cannot block a finance bill, such as the Budget.

And, by convention, they won't block a manifesto promise.

it is true

the range of sentencing was from community order to 16 weeks max

common assault
only 14% of offenders were sentenced to custody

In 2018 the most frequently used sentence outcome for common assault was a community sentence, comprising 41 per cent of offenders sentenced. A further 17 per cent of offenders received a fine, 14 per cent received a discharge and 12 per cent were given a suspended sentence. Fourteen per cent of offenders were sentenced to immediate custody

perhaps you should read the sentencing remarks as youve clearly not read them:

Well I reckon there was more to it than just some bloke politely whinging about some bridge closure ;)

He (MP) should have just hit him and left it at that ?

If only he’d been convicted of common assault. He wasn’t.
