how soon will Trump back down over tariffs

Aren’t you the poster who started a thread praising Trumpf as a breath of fresh air?
I like much of the stuff Trump has instigated, I don't like what he's doing with tariffs as it affects me. As per post 717.

As an investment guy on the telly box said, if you want to buy a $3000 iPhone, have it made in the States. If you want to buy a $1000 iPhone, make it in China.

I have just been trying to make sense of that. It seems like it isn't down to the cost of labour. That might only add $50. It is the cost of building the high tech factories and other infrastructure which would be in the hundreds of billions of dollars.

Also supply chain costs. You might produce a product in America, lets say it comprises 100 different components. 75 of the components might come from other countries, countries that now have higher tariffs applied. And if the goal is to produce all the components in America, all the minor costs (per component) add up. Hey presto, the $1000 iPhone is now $3000, either way.

Trumpf’s digging in, Bejing is selling its US bonds. Listen up Don

That'll hurt, don't China own a large chunk of US debt? (as well as everybody elses)
About three quarters I think. They are sending a clear message but it will fall on deaf ears

Trump is an angry toddler. He likes to start fights and it makes him feel he has "won" when he's caused some damage. He is convinced he is right. Especially when he's wrong. He doesn't care that he is damaging his country and his dumb supporters. He has no "cunning plan."

He is too old and too unpopular to win another election. He will moan "not fair" when he loses office, and perhaps trigger another attempted coup.

Until then nobody can unseat him. The Reps wouldn't support any attempt to impeach or prosecute him. The Trumpist Supreme Court say he can't be prosecuted. He will do whatever he wants until his support is gone.

Look on the bright side, he's an old, obese man with a poor diet and worsening dementia. He won't last for ever.

Talking head on Bloomberg has just said 'drill baby drill is dead.'

If it was ever truly alive you could argue.

I keep hearing that and its what I thought but as far as I can see from googling it shows China has $860b which equates to 2.6% of USA debt

Japan owns the most at $1.1TR then in 3rd is UK

China is a one party state, it can force its citizens into hardship with no political damage whatsoever............look at how Chinese authorities enforced lockdowns on Chinese society literally forcing people to be kept captive in their homes

China can keep up the trade war for quite some time
