Old black cable - possibly rubber?

Just had an idea that will potentially make life easier if feasible. There is a disused 6mm T&E shower cable running nearby, recently disconnected from the CU, but still accessible. It would be easy enough for me to reroute this to replace the old black cable leg of the ring main. Any issues with doing this? The rest of the ring main appears to be the standard 2.5mm.

The issue, will be getting 6mm into the socket terminals.

The 6mm would be running from the CU to a 2G 2P socket. I’m pretty sure the 6mm will just about fit into one gang and the ring would then continue in 2.5mm from the second gang. Assuming this is OK, I’m not going to unbalance anything and cause the RCD to trip am I?

Little update to the saga. It turns out the black cable isn't connected at the CU as I first thought. Rather, there are two 2.5mm ring legs as you might expect. For some reason, one leg goes directly to a junction box under the landing. Here, the leg continues beneath the floorboards as the black cable, serves a two gang socket and then continues on to another junction box, where it changes back to 2.5mm. Why this was left, when everything else was updated to 2.5mm is a mystery to me. Thankfully it will easier than I thought to replace the black stuff. And no messing about with 6mm. Amazing what you can deduce with a £10 inspection camera from Amazon!
