I’m looking to get a local tradesmen to lay a 2.4 x 3.6 m patio for me
It’s Indian sandstone and I have all materials on site (slaps sand, cement and hard-core)

There will be approximately a third of that size that needs hard-core to go down and be compacted
The other 2/3 was an existing patio and the hard-core is sound
From what I know, the slabs need to be laid on a full bit of mortar

With that in mind, could anybody give any sort of insight as to how much it would cost purely for the labour only?
I’m based in Worcestershire

I’ve had one quote already, which was £760 which frankly I was shocked by
I was thinking that it would be more like £300 as it looks like a day of labour to me

Is £300 what I should be anticipating or am I out of touch?

Many thanks in advance

I have just repointed an indian sandstone patio 26 sq metres and it took me 10 hours to grind out tge old pointing, re point it and seal.

Your £760 to lay a patio seems reasonable to me. It may look like a days work but you are also paying for the skill of the person laying it.

How do you know you have bought enough materials? You don’t mention any border blockwork, that could be a days work with the undersite before a slab is laid.

You've already said it needs compacted, and a full bed of mortar. So in addition to someone's labour, and skills and experienece, there's a wackerplate and a cement mixer to get, and a van with diesel and insurance and tax to gethem there. There's cleaning the equipment when he's finished, then somewhere to store them.
And you're assuming he'll get it laid and pointed in a day. Are you sealing it the day after that yourself ?
I think you're £760 is under priced. I wouldn't do it for that. Take his quote before he sees you've been on here !
