Kitchen (sink) plug (not sealing) (Ed.)

I have one of these, We've had the sink changed the guy that did it I used the old trap and plug, it worked ok before the new sink but now it won't hold the water, I've bought a new plug but that doesn't work either it's doing my head in if anyone knows a reason for this I'll buy you a pint lol

It’s a basket strainer type, and you’ve bought new? Might be perished seal or misaligned.
 
Yes of course but I wonder why it's not working and if it's a common problem
 
Yes the guy used the old stuff and for some reason it stopped sealing, I bought a new one and that still leaks
 
I have a bowl and half. Plugs look identical. Only one plug seals to allow the sink to fill.

Not all plugs are made equal.
