It seems Cuprinol's Rich Oak is a discontinued product, available as surplus stock from perhaps less reliable sources. One reads about mislabelled and leaky containers.

Are there any very close colour matches out there? Note that Ronseal's Dark Oak is too reddy-brown for my tastes, and looks lighter than the Rich Oak. which cures as a very dark black-brown.

Does Cuprinol's Forest Oak come close? Any other suggestions?

I am looking for a long-term 'direction of travel' for a choice of product, rather than a stop-gap.

The results of a search here (manufacturer's website) suggest Rich Oak is no longer available from the manufacturer https://www.cuprinol.co.uk/product/cuprinol-less-mess-fence-care

Google's AI search result (FWIW) states 'Yes, it appears that Cuprinol Less Mess Fence Care in the Rich Oak color has been discontinued'.

If that is indeed the case, then retailer's existing stock could be problematic for the reasons I mention - possibly being previous customer returns, for example.

Some caution also seems advisable when assuming that the in-store labelling is accurate, e.g.
The more humorous replies on that reddit thread refers to 'bleeping' orange, baby **** colour, and cat sick yellow. Best avoided!

I had the same problem wth anothet Cuprinol product and simply bought as many tins as I could find and stored them. They kapt me going for a few years and I'm still on the last tin almost 10 years later. I'll worry about it when that one runs out.

I wanted to buy a pot of green fence paint, last year I think it was. All the shops have pallets and pallets of every shade of grey fence paint. That's the latest fashion.

In the past I've mixed together 2 different colours of fence paint to get a different shade of brown.
