I just Googled and there seems to be an enhanced GPS which is much more accurate.

It doesn’t really matter how accurate it is, if a boat right on the maritime border becomes in need of rescuing, and so the migrants get put on the U.K. Border force boat, if they ring up France and say “you need to collect them” France will say “Up yours”





Anyway it requires the actual maritime boundary to be defined so there’s another level of inaccuracy.

Fortunately the marine chart plotters display HDOP values which shows worse case 8ft or less accuracy. Digital charts for this part of the world are similar.

these boats are 30-70ft they will be entirely visible and within ear shot when they are close to the border and they can be turned back without any issues.
