If asylum.seekers had to stop in the first safe country they would all stay in neighbouring countries like Turkey.

That would overload those regions and destabilise them.

Anyway just because of a fluke of geography why should Italy or France take them and not UK.

Ah, so they are just being considerate to the first and second safe countries they land in. What wonderful people. Do you think they are given the numbers when they pass through to enable them to make that very considerate decision?
