When 'are' we going to get tough on crime?

Sorry, it's you who is misunderstanding.

I'm not suggesting there is a default sentence for all crimes of a certain type, of course there are differing circumstances some of which will be mitigating. My point, which you seem determined to pivot from and/or ignore, is we have people committing serious crimes and getting relatively lenient sentences. If you want to assert that doesn't happen, fine, your opinion.
Six years is not lenient. Sentnces have got longer but no one ever says they are too long. So a default minimum sentence is the logical conclusion.

For killing someone, intentionally or not. Okaaaaaaay ...

Let's leave it there, we're never going to agree.

(and folk wonder why scum feel free to run amok)

Everybody’s free to run amok before or after their incarceration unless you lock them up for good which you appear not to agree with

That bloke who injured several
Police officers in a high speed chase

Think he got 14 months

Some woman who made a tweet got 31 months afaik

:ROFLMAO:

Yes exactly
That is the crazy leftie world that we live in. As some say on here, everyone should be treat the same.

We are left with only corporal punishment to be administered in my opinion. I am all for it and see it as a better deterent than a £50 fine.

for criminals only? Why do you think that the the army would want them.
Are you still up that column and not getting enough oxygen? National Service is universal. But nothing wrong with criminals joining the army, it can be the making of them.

I agree but not as a solution to avoid prison.

Some criminals would be made to volunteer for mine clearance around the world

Give em a pair of snow shoes and tell em to walk across the field

Or they could volunteer for medical research ?? Test the latest drugs on them ??

Some of the absolute scum bags would just be bumped off ? May be follow the Chinese practice ?? Some one who needs an organ transplant ? Lack of donors ??

They could be bumped off to order ??

Not a bad idea. I think they should be made to be organ donors which would be a good deterrent.

Armed robbery used to carry a life sentence. Is robbing someone at knifepoint armed robbery? It is in my book.
You can still get a life sentence for it. On average you get longer for it now than you used to.

There's a big range on it because the seriousness has a big range.

A woman who encouraged people to burn asylum seekers to death in their homes.

It's a pretty good comparison. She was encouraging people to do exactly what these people actually did.

And you think she should get off without punishment.
