"Britain's jobless rate has surged to its highest level for nearly four years, with wage growth dropping.

Experts blamed the slowdown in the jobs market on Chancellor Rachel Reeves for landing firms with higher costs amid evidence that employers were holding back on hiring.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics showed the rate of unemployment jumped to 4.6% in the three months to April, up from 4.5% in the three months to March and the highest level since the three months to July 2021."

Messing about with WFA ( though it IS an improvement)
We're Still waiting for something positive to promote GROWTH. Meanwhile the Germans are investing in their businesses.

Oh and we're spending a lot on 12 new submarines, and new factories.
Defence procurement is not growth. How much ££$££ spending there, goes to imports?

Not a good look.

600bn to spend today. Where's it going??

The increase in Employers NI and extension of job rights, makes the UK a tough sell if you can recruit internationally.

PAYE employment has fallen.
Redundancies have increased.
The economic outlook has been downgraded.

Rachel Reeve could’ve done better if Labour hadn’t inherited a Tory disaster.

Tories disastrous Brexit caused the greatest damage since WW2

Maybe a good thing, businesses may not have to import workers if they can source them locally.
4.6 % isn't that bad, any rate below 3% and the economy would seize up and require more imported labour to get it moving again.

According to economists..

Economists tend to agree that anything lower than 2.5% to 3% risks extreme labor shortages developing in the economy. “Firms who have job openings, they're just basically poaching workers from other companies, because there's hardly any unemployed people to hire,” said Shierholz.18 Feb 2025

How is it a good thing for more people to be unemployed? Avoiding a low figure that it's nowhere near, is not a plus.
It is nowhere near 0,25, it is nowhere near 3, and neither was it before.

People atthe bottom are on minimum wage anyway, so there's no shift there.

I Googled the current NAIRU.

The Bank of England estimates the NAIRU to be around 4.5%, which is considered a rise from pre-pandemic levels.

Nonsense. Large Labour voting areas delivered the Brexit vote

Reeves is a serial liar

brexit was a Conservative project.

David Cameron = referendum
Theresa May = A50
Boris Johnson = hard brexit
Nigel Farage = used to be a Conservative.

Don’t go blaming Labour

You just won’t accept that voters like you and Labour voters up north delivered the out VOTE
