We have got the first few hot days of summer coming up.

I thought people might want to share their best cooling tip.

Everyone is different, so what works for one might not work for another.

On the very hottest days, by which I mean over 30C, occasionally I get far too hot and really need to cool down. So, I have a lukewarm shower. But I don't dry off much with a towel. Instead I stand in front of a fan to dry off. I feel completely different afterwards and it seems to drop my core temperature considerably for several hours. I read this tip on an Australian website. Most years I don't need to do this, though. The last time was when we had that record temperature day in 2022. The article also said do not be tempted to have a cold shower to cool down because that will make you shiver and you will end up even hotter.

The worst tip I ever followed was drinking hot tea. It just made me much, much hotter.

Whilst in Sydney during summer we used to sit in McDonalds nursing milkshakes, the air con was fierce, like walking into an oven when you left though

Coming up ? where do you live the Outer Hebrides ?

Or wipe your face and top half with a cold wet flannel and stand in front of a fan.

I’m decorating today and I find the best way to not be bothered by the heat is to be busy working, I find concentrating keeps the mind off it.

Surely doesn't your sewing machine generate a draught?

That is true! The technique in my OP is more about how to cool down once you have finished with the days exertions on a very hot day.

The shower fan thing is just a more powerful version of the flannel fan thing.

Split system reversable Aircon. - Told the OP to buy one last year.. did he listen....

Even Lidl were doing portables for £150 earlier.
