Cooling tips

Well I work in a cherry picker all day so no getting out of it. The higher I go I get a breeze so it is a little more bearable. It is all mind over matter. If you concentrate on other things and ignore the heat, it makes it comfortable. I am acclimatised anyways and my mind is strong so I really don't suffer.

Chill out everyone (lol) it'll probably be snowing next week

It wont

If the loft is insulated this is a bad idea, the warm air will act as micro temperature inversion, unless the loft space is extremely well ventilated.
Are you suggesting the hot air will flow downward?

Doesn't your house have any eaves gaps?

I think the argument is that it might sit more like a blanket on top, preventing any convection.
If, like biker boy, you have a sealed roof with no eaves gaps.

Presumably you get a lot of condensation up there.

Can we at least agree that it is pointless when the air outside is warmer than the air inside. Which it usually is on a hot day.

But I still can't get my head around the logic of doing it during the day. On a hot sunny day, a typical loft with joist insulation is like a furnace due to the radiant heat from the tiles. And anyway the "warm" air from the house is still cooler than the air outside. So, you will only be replacing warm air with even warmer air from outside.

Unless the loft is a reasonable temperature, and well ventilated, it's debatable whether there would be any improvement by opening the hatch during the day's heat.

However, today, outdoors is some 2.5C hotter, than it was yesterday, but it certainly feels fresher than yesterday - the difference is...

Yesterday, we had glaring beating down, and almost no breeze. Today, we have full cloud cover, no direct sun, and a bit of a cooling breeze.
Would it work if, at night, the air in the loft cools below the temperature of the air in the house.

It only works reasonably well, if there is somewhere for the heat to rise to, in the loft - either extremly well ventilated, or an open Velux window.
