Anyone else notice that on the mere whisper of an issue internationally, the fuel stations have wasted no time in reacting to "market conditions". Even though it takes months for those same prices to come down when there are no issues with the markets.

My local has gone from 1.34 to 1.42 on diesel in less than a week

In the last two years my window cleaner has doubled his prices, he blamed Starmmer for all of it. In some/many respects Inflation is businesses friend. Unlike the and the public sector,

Tell him to only clean 'em, half as often :-)

He already misses out quite a few of them, and would drop us if we “negotiated” as he has with other clients. He got new accountants who told him to increase his fees for long standing customers. He must be doing alright as he spends a lot of his time in his flat in Spain. He’s nice enough but has built a huge customer base so can do what he pleases. It’s not even cash only any more.

Plenty of window cleaners about, find another, or do what I do - DIY.

Every time the people up there announce a crisis, somehow we are the ones paying more taxes.
Of course the crisis doesn't get resolved and even if it does taxes never go down to previous level.

Lots of recent warnings about fuel increases.Shouldn't be a surprise .
It's not the fact that they have gone up. It's how quickly increases are passed on.

When the price goes down, it's often long drawn out slow decrease. The price goes up, it's passed on very quickly.

I mean, I didn't expect anything less, and it's not a surprise, the title was being ironic.

But when I saw my local go from 1.34 to 1.42 in a week, I had to vent

It's a problem that oil is often located in far away lands with unstable regimes. It could have been different. For instance, Ireland could have had oil instead of potatoes. Unfortunately the Irish had first choice. :giggle:

What happens to our oil in the north sea?
Do we sell it for cheap and then buy expensive one from the middle east?

I never understand that either. If you live in US or UAE for example, you see the benefit of cheap petrol. As usual, in rip-off Britain we are screwed the most and get the least in return. Mad Ed will be wanting to keep fuel/energy high to force us into impractical battery driveway appliances and fix fans to the outside wall of our homes that do nothing but make noise to annoy the neighbours. Politicians = traitors.

Yes, we made a killing from selling it to other people during the Thatcher years. We then spent a lot of it, buying most of our oil from places like the Middle East though, because our refineries weren't set up to accept the kind of crude that we got from the North Sea. I think about 80% of it was exported.

Of course, it's drying-up now, and we've spaffed most of the proceeds up against a wall. Norway owns about as much North Sea Oil as we do, but it chose a different path to us, and now has the largest sovereign wealth fund in the world...

Yes, this recent oil price hike isn't all bad news...

...my domestic EV tariff hasn't changed... ;)

Unleaded around my neck of the woods is 130.9 at Sainsbury's & Tesco (opposite each other) but another 6p up at the ESSO station. The distance between both is about a mile so anyone paying 6p extra must be feeling flush.
