I hope the government loses the vote.

The changes they propose to PIP eligibility criteria are cruel and will put the most vulnerable into critical poverty. That’s not right.

I realise finances are bad, but Labour need to find money elsewhere.

…and preferably from groups that traditionally don’t vote labour but I think they've already squeezed them dry by now. Ah sod it, just go after businesses again or those that have spent a lifetime working and saving, they can afford it.

After fifteen years of relatively low economic growth, there doesn't seem to be an easy answer. It is a real mess.

I appreciate it's most likely unquantifiable, however it would great to know how effectively each £1 taken in tax is spent. When I say effectively I mean not wasted.

It's one thing to almost constantly demand more from us in terms of tax if we knew the high majority of it was and is going to be well spent, however if in reality a not insignificant % is p1ssed up the proverbial wall of waste, that's an entirely different thing altogether.

There is undoubtedly waste, both in the public sector and contracted out services.

I doubt whether waste is easily eliminated.

Sadly “waste” has been used as political tool for years, when govts want to cut department budgets they call it “efficiency savings”

I believe the greatest “waste” is a result of lobbyists: govts are seduced by party donations, 2nd jobs for MPs, jobs for mates of MPs.

Examples:
1) PFI in NHS and Education
2) Rwanda scheme
3) contracts for asylum seeker hotels
4) recruitment services for NHS
5) consultancy services NHS etc

This country has a very weak parliamentary system which allows far too much political influence to be bought.

It’s a problem for all parties: Tory and Labour. Look at wealthy party donors, some gave loads of money to Tories are now giving money to Labour.

A catastrophic double climb down by Sir Kier but where's the money going to come from? Ah, yes…

Do you think Rach will still be around by the end of the year?

get off rubber dinghy, claim 'mental health' jobs a good'un

It's wonderful to think what a kind and caring nation we are - well done labour

I quite agree about PFI (profits for investors) because Gordon Brown liked it because it was “off balance sheet” debt that didn’t show up on Government debt.

My misses hospital uses agency staff but isn’t allowed to recruit additional staff. Recently they had about 4000 applicants for 35 jobs but should have recruited at least 50. Talk about stupidity at the highest level

Don’t you mean "more tax rises, we don’t yet know what, gets voted through"?
You really are very silly, aren’t you?

The number of people on benefits, like PIP is increasing, that is not Labours fault.

Labour are trying to slow the increase in costs but it’s easy without making people suffer…..maybe Mottie wants people to suffer?

Labour should offer to slash taxes, promise to get rid of NHS waiting lists in 2 years, end 2 child cap limit, reinstate full winter fuel payment and any other vote winning policies and just ignore the massive hole in funding.

Oh wait, Reform party are doing that…..because they aren’t in power and can bullsh1t all they like, selling magic money trees and people like Mottie lap it up.

It is an absolute ridiculous situation.

Primary care trusts are restricted by their budgets so they can’t take on enough staff…..so they pay silly amounts to private recruitment agencies for bank staff.

I once did an orangery for a guy, he was in his early 40s, he had a massive house and a huge holiday mansion in Portugal…..he ran a business providing recruitment to public sector.

Yes indeed, its basically it’s a way to build new hospitals now and make future generations pay.

PFI model means the contract ensures all maintenance and ongoing changes have to be done by the PFI contractors at rip off prices.

I know one department that had some lovely pieces of artwork given to them, but they were never hung on wall……because it meant using a PFI contractor and would cost about £600 for about 2 hours work.

Whoever signed off these contracts should be investigated.

Pat McFadden was on a news prog this morning and was asked about this. He of course said Rachel's going nowhere, she's 'doing a good job' and they (her, Keir etc) work as a team.

I have my doubts she'll still be there tbh.

It wasn't her he was talking about, it was Liz Kendall.
