Sycamore tree

£500k? How a sycamore can be worth more than its dust value as mdf is beyond me. The tree surgeons I know don't think large trees are of anything other than a neutral or negative value because of the cost of removing sectioning transporting etc. Four years is OTT for the loss of a common species. With their expertise focussed community service and 6 months hard labour would be more appropriate

What would be the "value" of anything else deliberately destroyed by vandals?

A pile of broken bricks? A shredded painting? Your broken windows? A teaspoon of paint scratched off your car with a key?

"Ars gratia artis" As Mr. Goldwyn Mayer would say.

Art is in the eye of the beholder and you pay a premium for a view at a particular location. The Sycamore had the location to demand a high price for cutting it down. How much would you pay to live in a house at that spot? 500k would seem cheap to someone prepared to pay a premium for that view.

But there's a great big weed blocking the view.

You're f'king kidding me!!

For chopping out a dirty great big weed they should be commended.
has the heat affected your grey matter - you've been pretty irrational since the hot weather arrived

Sheffield Council felled thousands of perfectly healthy trees because it was cheaper than insuring them. You would not get half a million quid for that tree on eBay. It was an unprotected tree and a criminal damage case, not about the inherent value of the tree.

I dont get why they have also been done for criminal damage to the wall - shouldn’t that have been accidental damage
