Electric VW so cheap.....why

EVs will always depreciate faster thans ICE, because the target market of customers is much smaller

The reason that EVs currently depreciate more quickly than do ICE cars is that they're a new technology, and rapidly superceding models that went before.
This will inevitably cease to be the case, at which point depreciation will be no more of an issue then it is for ICE cars.

I keep reading about EV's depreciating rapidly.

I'm looking at a new (or nearly new) car for the wife, and am considering all options. EV's appear to be the no brainer, even to a petrolhead like myself. But 2nd hand values aren't as low as I keep getting told in here.

Just 1 note, Tesla is not even on the consideration list.

My short list so far is Vwag group if diesel, Japanese or Korean if petrol, and Korean and possibly (only possibly) Chinese if EV. And so far EV seems to be the way to go. Nothing else, from anywhere else, makes my shortlist.

Google "What percentage of EV drivers wouldn't go back to ICE?"

The hits are a mix of sources that you could consider having a vested interest, and others that likely don't (like This is Money).

Upwards of 90% is the answer.

Nor me. I've looked up prices in 3 places after someone here told me mine was worth a third of its new cost and they are all round the 50% mark.
Exact comparisons with an ICE equivalent is a bit tricky because the MY23 MG ZS has a shorter wheelbase and although it is longer, it is only so by 36mm.

A comparably trimmed 23 MG ZS is cheaper than a 23 MG4. If you step up to a 2023 MG HS, they are similar money, despite being a bit bigger.

The MY23 HS has a 60mm longer wheelbase than the MG4, and is 287mm longer.

Nor was it for us, even before he became "part of the US Govt".

Our local taxi company is stuffed with Skoda Octavia Diesels of various vintages, some up to 500K and still running.

Our Honda FRV was Diesel and did 176K before we sold it.

I bought my lad a 2018 Hyundai i30 tourer 1.0T which he's very impressed with.

A friend has a 59 plate i20 still happily running around.

I said it's lost 60% of its value, you reckon 50%, its trade in price will probably be closer to my figure, you can buy a brand new one for 22,000 today, and herein lies the problem, discounting of new cars drives down the price of used and nobody knows when it will end.

Compare the depreciation of EV's and ICE's. I just don't see the difference in the models I'm looking at.

2 of those 4 years probably spent sitting around in the services, drinking yet another coffee. I see all the Openreach and British Gas vans hogging the chargers for long periods at McD's, etc. Nice little number for the staff.
Charging whilst on their breaks do you mean ?

Like they never tossed it off before EV, eh? (y)

Will it always be possible to coordinate it, so that breaks, low battery charge and available public charger all occur at the same time. In a busy working day when you have a tjousand things going on - that will be some feat.
Do you think they spend that much time travelling and needing recharging during the day?

Probably only topping up whilst stopped, most loikely to do full charges overnight.

When do you think they stopped to fill up with diesel? During their lunch breaks or at nights when at home? Or during work time, being paid to fill up ?

I know you are not a fan of EV, but petrol and diesel is not the way forward.

It's really not that hard...
