Anyone know where I can buy a windscreen, please?

Long story short, son's car has a big crack in the screen. It's a 1990 Alfa so it's a rare car to start with. The screen has stainless trims round three edges, which are no longer available so I'd need to cut the old ones off the old screen and clean them up - plus I might need to treat some rust under the screen, if there is any. For those reasons, I'd much rather just buy a windscreen and fit it myself (I've done this before), but I'm struggling to find anyone who will only sell me a screen now! Last time I did it, my local National Windscreens place got me one, but they're no longer trading.

Have you tried any of Alfa Owners forums ?

I have indeed. (Though it's National Alfa Day this weekend so I probably won't get any sense out of them until after that's over)!

Screens are available, it's just that nobody seems to want to just sell a screen. Nobody will quote me for anything other than supply-and-fit, but I've had that before, and they just use generic rubber edging strip off a roll, in the absence of the proper trims - and that just looks really naff.

Not insured for glass breakage?

Not insured for glass breakage?

Yes, and it doesn't look like a claim would affect his no-claims (which, being a young driver, is an important concern to us!) but I think that if I went through his insurance, they'd probably insist on one of their windscreen fitting partners doing the job, and that would probably mean they won't be willing to mess about with salvaged trims or treat any rust under the screen that might be present. Technically, it's also not really a claim for accidental damage, I can't see an impact mark. It just looks like a 35 year old windscreen that has got tired of living!
