Has the tables turned?

What has drastically changed is the wages and conditions that sparks like myself can command from an employed status without the risk of self employment. Massively.
That's simply a supply and demand issue. That can and will change. Nothing new or distinct there. You are as disposable as the next bulb polisher, when the demand dries up.

Well who else goes under the floors other than sparks and plumbers?

I was working with a plumber years back, decent bloke, introduced me to the charity shops in St Johns Wood High St and a back street greasy spoon round the corner. He told me about a refurb he was on, having taken up 1 floorboard, he set the depth of his circular saw blade to 1mm less than the thickness of the floorboard he'd taken up.
So, he ran the saw across the centre of a joist, knowing there were pipes there but knowing he'd avoid them, when suddenly a geyser of mains pressure water erupted from the floor bouncing off the ceiling. Apparently the plumber hadn't notched the joists out quite enough for the pipes, so to accommodate the difference he notched out the bottom of the floorboards.

Nonsense.
There are folk that would hate to be self employed and vice versa. There is no 'one size fits all'.

Speaking of 'one size fits all' reminds me of a story. Some years ago we were in Patpong? market in Bangkok, I saw a pack of T shirts that were designer label and 3 for £5, I said to the market trader that seems like remarkable value, although they look a little on the small size, do you have anything a little larger?
He said what sounded like 'onesifitawww', which I interpreted as one size fits all.

Back at the hotel room, it swiftly dawned on me that he was a lying bastard.

This thread wasn't started as an argument but of what people think,
You seem unable to explain your comments coherently in regards to the 'table turned'. None of your explanations make sense and I'm telling you from an SE point of view.

It's a swings and roundabouts situation - always was and always will be.

I could earn £4k for a weekend. Not interested.
Weekends are family time; people are always asking me to do extra work on weekends, but it's not happening. Forgoing your weekend for a bigger figure in your bank account is meaningless.

Some work can only be carried out at weekends
