Why are so many of the under 20's, walking about, wearing those massive over the head, headphones? Are they the latest fashion item?

I have a set of Bose QC35 Bluetooth noise cancelling headphones. They are great on long plane journeys - Great for listening to music or watching a film on the iPad. Very comfortable and block out the engine noise. Better than the noise cancelling earbuds I have.

I have the Sony XM3's, getting on a bit now (secretly hoping they pack up so I can upgrade), noise cancelling headphones are the work of the devil! I bought them when lockdown began and started WFH to try and drown out the noise at home. Absolutely brilliant. Ironically if I'm forced into the office now and then I take my headphones, if I want to really zone out I sometimes play an aircraft white noise. Hannah Fry did an episode about the technology involved, it's really so simple.

Years ago when listening to music in the office with earphones became a thing (late 90s) my old boss would walk past people who were plugged in and whisper hello or good afternoon or whatever in the hope of catching them out. He caught out plenty of people but I was wise to his tricks! ;)

They sound better.

But not cool on a zoom or teams call. You look like you should be directing a jumbo to park at Heathrow wearing them on a call.

These are under 20's, walking about in the streets, crossing busy roads.

He means on a plane you muppet. But actually you can wear them when in a car, nothing stopping you lawfully (and no different to a deaf driver) and the noise cancelling when in a car at 70mph is mind boggling (as a passenger of course ;) ). You should try it Harry.

40+ year old blokes walking down the road wearing them look ridiculous

Yea we know that but we're a bunch of old farts who can't really relate to 20 year olds so have to come up with our own musings. The headphones thing on 20 year olds crossing a road is a moot point anyway, age and gender has no respect for iidiocracy.

Not likely. A deaf driver, would need to declare it on their licence application, a driver needs to hear, and be aware of what is happening around them. I only turn the ICE on, when driving on quiet roads.

A 40+ parked his van next to me tonight, and he was wearing them whilst driving.
