Massive headphones - under 20's?

They are worn by people who want to be noticed. Ooohh look at me I’ve got turkey teeth, silicone implants, tatoos on my face, pink hair, big headphones, banging music driving down the high street.

They are all just saying LOOK AT ME in one way or another.

I used to wear them around Sainsburys when I did the weekly shop to drown out the the humdrum and the old farts like Old Salt being dragged round the place by their missus.

On a flight etc I get it but walking down the road OMG......get the little ones that go inside your ear if you have to listen to music.

AirPods are the best imho. Take one out and the music/ video stops.

Plus apple are the best!

I got told by a copper in the 80s that you could use one earphone while driving, as long as the other ear was free for driving!

can you still hear people talking with noise cancelling headphones? or do they just cut out background noise ?

I would like some for when on a train so I can read, I don't mind the background noise but get irritated by farkwits shouting into their mobile phones

Never tried driving with one ear! I use my hands like most people!

No they cut out everything to a degree, they're great for public transport/flying etc, John Lewis usually have a few pairs available on demo, I can only speak for the Sony's, they quieten everything but if someone's speaking loudly you'll hear them, you can change the settings so that just voices come through or not at all, if you hold your palm against them the noise cancelling shuts off allowing you to hear everything for announcements etc. I daresay the tech and features has moved on a bit since I bought mine.
