I’m looking to get a dash cam for our new car. Just looking for a single one that can be hard wired and comes on automatically when I start up. Not looking for a 2 ch setup - if they hit me in the rear it’s their fault anyway. Also not particularly looking for one that records when parked. Not bothered either whether it has a screen on it - but must have one that has WiFi so events can be viewed and stored on a mobile phone so one with an easy to use app. Anyone on here using such a setup? Recommendations?

Not saying it's the best, however a few months back I bought this (2 camera) setup after doing some Googling of what's out there. So far so good, although I elected not to hard wire.

Nexbase are good. Doesn't the new car come with this as a built in - might just need a memory card?

I would consider the 2 camera setup. I get your point re if someone rear ends you, however a video still speaks a 1000 words etc.

I bought a cheap one some years back and stuck it in mrs fillys car. After a few days I asked if I could see her journey to work. She was instantly hesitant and I knew she was trying to hide something. Eventually she caved in and showed me. She didn't realise it had sound so I had about 5 minutes of singing followed by ******g *****r every time somebody pulled out onto the road 50 yards ahead of her. In real life I'd never heard her sing before and she rarely, if ever, swears.
It was quite an eye opener.

Re manufacturers:

Nextbase is the UK market leader. Road Angel is also British. I expect they'll both have something.

Also Viofo (Chinese) and Blackvue (S Korean).

Plus Garmin, Mio and Navitel.

I'd look at Nextbase first.

Actually i think a combined front and rear are a good idea given how many muppets there are on the road these days

We have next base units

Same country as the car is coming from then.

Yes, was it a Hyundai or a Kia I can't remember?

Generally speaking I am a fan of South Korean products, they are very technologically advanced. I did have a quick look on the Blackvue website, their products aren't cheap:

There's a quick review of the Viofo A329S from a YouTube vanlifer that I saw recently, see the "Ame in a van" YouTube channel, with the video entitled "STUCK in my VAN in 40°C" (review starts at 5:49).

What are the alternatives to hard wire: WiFi? Any disadvantages? Thinking of front rear next base

Cigarette power lead hanging across your view? Wifi needed if you have one with no screen to be able to view and download clips. Only thing is, most of the Apps that you need for say BlackVue and Road Angel get terrible reviews.
