Right to protest...

In Britain, it is every citizens right to protest. I am a big believer in this being kept intact. Once a protest turns ugly then the full force of the law should be applied.

You mean, like when a gang of murderous arsonists try to burn down a hotel.

Or a nutter spreads false stories online to stir up violence.

Yet again, it would never have happened if the sicko islamic extremist coward hadnt murdered innocent Jewish worshippers!!

Looks like you are suggesting that ethnic hatred and violence justifies ethnic hatred and violence.

Or a nutter spreads false stories online to stir up violence.
Agreed, that kind of thing is very serious.

The boss of an anti-racism charity has apologised after wrongly tweeting that a Muslim woman had been attacked with acid during rioting.

Nick Lowles, chief executive of Hope Not Hate used Twitter on Saturday night to claim there had been reports of an acid attack in Middlesbrough.

“Reports are coming in of acid being thrown out of a car window at a Muslim woman in Middlesbrough. Absolutely horrendous,” Mr Lowles wrote.

The post was seen by more than 100,000 people. The post was flagged by Twitter with a community note which said: “The reports of an acid attack have been denied by local police.”

That wasn't a protest. That was pure violence that was a disgaraceful and cowardly act. I don't want them in this country but I also do not want to see people attacking them either.

Everyone who attended either of the appalling pro-Palestine marches in London and Manchester yesterday is complicit in the murder of Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz. And the worst of it is, you know you are.

And yet you still went. The two men died after an Islamic extremist - called Jihad for Allah’s sake! - started killing people at a synagogue in Manchester.#

And he did this because people like you have been wilfully and knowingly turning Britain in 2025 into Germany in 1936.
You created the environment, you brought back the hatred, you empower the psychos. And the rapist psychos.
Not in my name, as the empty slogan goes, but definitely in yours.
You hide behind anti-Zionism, but the truth is you hate Jews because you have been fed and swallowed ignorant, un-educated, violently racist anti-semitic bile - some of you from birth, some of you via the internet.
Some of you were born into ignorant hate and didn’t have the wit to think for yourself, some of you learned it - sheep that you are.
I’m ashamed to be British today.

And the racism? Don’t be under any illusion, we imported a huge chunk of it - then we normalised it.

So now in Britain we have racism and we have anti-semitism - as if they are two different things.
As if anti-semitism is racism lite.
It’s disgusting.
Go read about the Holocaust you idiots. Read an actual book, not a TikTok post.
What did you think you were achieving on your violent, self-righteous, hate-filled march? Are you really stupid enough to think Netanyahu is sitting there in Tel Aviv thinking “gracious me, they seem awfully cross in Greater Manchester, I better change my entire political worldview.”
No, all you did was bring more hate to Britain’s streets.
But you knew that.
And you still went.

I’m supposed to be a man of words but on Thursday all I could offer my friend who runs a Jewish newspaper was a two-word text - one word began with F and the other with H, and the first word rhymed with “clucking”.

He replied, knowingly, ruefully, almost apologetically, “That’s about the size of it.”

I know him as a pal and a drinking buddy but I never knew the hours he has had to put in at synagogue for years “in a yellow bib and holding a walkie-talkie” and, his words, “joking what a waste of time it was!”

We now know that this level of security at British synagogues is far, far from a waste of time.

Again, I’m ashamed to be British today.

He suggested “too many young Muslims are raised on poison” - and I leave it for you to decide if that’s an accurate assessment or not.

The muslims I count among my friends I don’t think were raised on poison, for a second - and yet I have to accept even these most British, kind, funny, and indeed tolerant friends are a little bit sniffy about Jews.

And once, as a nation, more we find ourselves having to apologise for Islam, and pointing out it's not all bad.

Although I think the “religion of peace” claim is starting to wear a bit thin if I’m honest.

For the record I’m not anti-Islam, I’m anti religion.

I think when we have democracy, education, science and a space probe that has literally left the solar system and is 24 billion kilometres away, it’s probably time to stop saying there’s a man in the sky who only likes Christians / Catholics / Jews / Muslims / Norsemen, etc.

Depending entirely on the random geography of your birth.

But we have to face the facts that when you ask the question “when was the last Jewish terrorist atrocity on UK soil?” the answer is “never”.

Or Hindu? Or Agnostic? Or Zoroastrian? Or Buddhist?

But when you chuck in the two really uncompromisingly fundamentalist religions Islam and Catholicism, the answer becomes “where do you want me to start?”

There’s the guilt of a lapsed Catholic for you.

Whereas, in a much more considered piece in the Jersusalem Post, a Jewish journalist from Manchester pins the blame squarely on Netanyahu:

"But I'd argue that it's actually Israeli officials who've made little effort to understand the Jews around the world their actions have an impact on.

Prime Minister Netanyahu is under indictment and fighting legal battles of his own, and despite him saying years ago that any Prime Minister in such a situation should resign, he hasn’t. While in 2014, he hadn't yet been indicted, it seems likely that anyone facing such legal battles would become increasingly combative over time. Diaspora Jews don't need a combative Prime Minister in the Knesset.

Far-right and combative Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir genuinely couldn't care less about the impact his bombastic actions have on Jews in the Diaspora. In fact, according a source who was actively asked him about this, this is confirmed to be the case. Diaspora Jews don't need combative ministers like Ben-Gvir

No one is denying that this attack, whatever to motive, is explicitly antisemitic. What is likely to be an attack on British Jews for a war they have no control over, will make that even clearer – if and when that’s confirmed.

The problem is that Israel is the Jewish state, and it’s now led by the very worst us Jews can apparently come up with. A smarmy, self-serving man who cares more about staying in power than the Israelis, and Jews he represents.

Diaspora Jews are stuck in a tough place, as Netanyahu continues down the road of isolationism and making Israel look more like a pariah state than ever, even simple support for the land where Jews are indigenous, from British Jewry, could be perceived as abhorrent.

For Jews in the Diaspora, this is not the Israeli government that they should want. But for some reason, the Prime Minister is often conflated with Israel itself and receives defense from Jews in the UK. I urge you to stop defending him. We can and will do better without him and his ilk, who make it clear they care little for the Diaspora Jews whose actions they have an impact on."

The pro Palestine protest should have been cancelled this weekend.

Sorry not cancelled, have the protest but not in the same week as the attack on a synagogue, re schedule it for a couple of weeks time.

Is that unreasonable?

The protest against the killing of tens of thousands of people, including women, children and babies should not have gone ahead, because two men were killed, and some others were injured?

How about if we suggested Yom Kippur should be cancelled because genocide is being committed in Palestine by Israel?

Aren't you doing exactly the same that you accuse fillystine and motorbiking of doing: conflating Jews with Israel?

The protest was against the actions and policies of Israel, not against Jews.
It was also against the proscription of Palestine Action, which is also a movement against the actions and policies of Israel, not Jews.
