I'd heard in the past about large communities of people in Bristol living in vans. Since my foray into the world of campervans having made my own I've looked at quite a few facebook groups, vanlife UK, vanlife cornwall. Initially it seemed to be a social thing, organised rallies and meets but the more I read, the more staggering it becomes just how many people are living in vans full time. There are a minority who have opted for a simpler lifestyle, sold their houses and bought a van, they've bought freedom. But it's alarming how many tens of thousands are living in vans because they simply have no other choice.
Bloke who runs my local is early 70s. When he retired from the pub he bought a really nice motorhome with double rear axle. Completely self contained with gas ch and hot water, solar panels, etc, etc. Quite luxurious inside. Went up onto the Bristol Downs and lived there for a couple of years. Said there were all sorts living up there - people like him with £40,000 motorhomes, down to those living in old PO Trannys. His neighbour was early 80s with a massive dog and wife in van. Three doors along was a girl in her 20s who went out dressed smartly every morning to her office job. She lived in a motorhome because she couldn't afford a flat and didn't want to be in a grotty bedsit.
My landlord did a couple of years of this, then came back to run the pub again. All this is going on while we're renting thousands of houses, some councils even buying them, for the millions of male migrant spongers who arrive here. Politicians = traitors.
