Hi
I want to put engineered wood flooring over joists, is there any issue with the thickness of the boards? Is 14mm thick good enough?

Thanks

Engineered wood flooring is not a Structural floor, you would need floorboards/Composition boarding over the joists before the Engineered Wood could be installed as a 'finishing' floor surface.

One supplier said "18mm plus engineered wood floorings can be installed directly over joists". I think makes sense as 18mm engineered flooring is stronger than 18mm chipboard sub floor.

Also:

What are your joist spacings?

If 400 or less I'd agree with your supplier but I wouldn't want to try 14mm at any spacing as it will only have about 1/3 of the stiffness of the 18

Until it expands due to humidity/moisture.

Isn’t that the beauty of the engineered bit stabilises it. But no I would not lay it straight on the joists and what about the ends they will be floating unless you put in noggins which would take longer than putting down a sub floor and if direct on joists then you loose the option of optimal running - to the light.
