Yes, but those who are shouting the loudest about having investigations and enquiries don't want those widened to look at all ethnicities and all religions, they want them to focus only on the ethnicities and religions they already hate.

I really think that if you offered them a choice between an enquiry which would find ways to protect 50 girls a year from "Asian grooming gang" abuse, and one which would protect 100 children a year from Catholic priest abuse they'd want the former.

Maybe those two are related. There had been so many enquiries, and reports, etc, the most recent being Alexis Jay's 7-year long one.

Did he simply just not want YABE instead of getting on with implementing the recommendations of all the earlier ones?

But he asked Louise Casey (who also started out thinking "what, another one?") to audit the earlier ones , she came back and said actually yes, we do need another one.

And Starmer said "OK, we'll have another one, and it will be a Statutory one" before her report was even published.
