changing the guttering rubber seals

Hi all, About 7 of our guttering seals needed changing due to leaks where the joins were and i first tried a guttering sealant but for some reason that didnt work despite me applying lots to each join so this week i went to b&q and got a couple of packs of rubber seals after speaking with one of their very helpful members fo staff . when i got home and changed them they werent as long as the old ones and werent the same shape with regards to same groves and indentations (if that makes sense) and ive still got the leaks.

Can anyone help me with what im doing wrong as this should be a simple job but i cant seem to get it done

You might be better off replacing the joins/unions.

To be honest, I didn't realise that the likes of B&Q sell seals. And yeah, as you have discovered they are not universal.

Try and find out the make of the guttering - it may be printed or embossed on it somewhere. Marly and flowplast do not play nice with each other I have found.

I lifted each length of gutter, cleaned the union or corner piece, then put a load of white CT1 on it, and refitted the gutter into it. Cleaned up the outside with Wonder Wipes, then added more CT1 inside where required. 2 years on and its leak free....

Not very helpful if he is not aware of the many types of seal for the many different manufacturers.

Maybe a problem there as the idea is that the guttering can expand over the rubber seals but CT will fix it in position and not allow it to move with expansion -- but you have done it without and issues ----so

OP,
Take one of your gutter fitting's with its seals to a local plumbing supplies, and maybe the staff will ID what you need? Stay away from sheds.

I have decided to replace the whole unit instead of just the rubber seals as the correct rubber seals will be included in with the whole unit.

But you should still find out what the original is, like I said different manufacturers do not ply nice with each other
