Asbestos in ceiling

If the roof's been leaking then it will be damp, this reduces the chance of any fibres flying about.
Not worth worrying about after the fact. Thinking that some limited exposure to asbestos is definitely going to cause cancer is like saying I once briefly smoked, so I'll definitely get lung cancer. Which we know is not true.
Thank you for your reply. Do you think there’s anything to worry about? Have you seen asbestos something like this?

Never seen it myself, but asbestos bound by cement is considered to be the safest of all the types that are out there.

The issue with asbestos is that if asbestos fibres are inhaled into the lungs, they cannot be cleared out of the lungs, they just sit in the lungs, and eventually (20+ years) this can trigger a mesothelioma lung cancer. So if you had a few significant big exposures to asbestos, with a high concentration of fibres in the air, and you inhaled a lot of them, this could kill you 20 years later. In this respect, asbestos is much more dangerous than cigarette smoke.

However, the OP would have nowhere near this level of exposure, if any, and can rest easy in my opinion.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. If the area hadn’t have been so big I would have been able to move on without worrying so much but 4ftx6ft could potentially have released millions of fibres if there were any in there.

I think I need to stop googling as that can’t give me the answer and is probably making me feel worse

Thank you again
