Hello,

I've got these OSB loft boards which are pictured. The instructions are saying they need to be acclimatised first, but the lack of words / explanation, and the strange wording that is used, leads to some questions.

It says "enabling after adolescence 48 hours"... which translated into normal English, I think means: leave them out of their packaging for 48 hours? Like I have the space and time for that, but anyway. It then refers to required room temperature and humidity range - do they mean for the 48 hour acclimatisation or in general? Because my loft is going to get a lot colder than 15C and a lot hotter than 30C depending on the time of year.

These things are mostly glazed in some kind of treatment and have been in a B&Q warehouse, albeit in their packaging, so is putting them all over the floor in my house for two days really necessary?

Any advice appreciated.

I think its because of the cold and humidity in the timber.
If you bring them in from a cold damp garage to a warm house then condensation can form.
Then you use which could trap moisture or the boards buckle as they can't move when fixed.
They are probably covering themselves just incase so use common sense.

Yeah, they've been packaged and stored in a B&Q then come into my house and I've had them out for 24 hours so I'll just use them now.

Open and leave in loft which is where they need to acclimatise too.
But the packaging seems to be saying 15-30 centigrade and a humidity range - I cannot guarantee either in that loft at this time of year. Or any time of year other than maybe mid Spring time.

I'm wondering if, as Wayners suggests, it is about losing some of the moisture content in the boards. Like when I built my shed and it ended up 'setting' after a month or so into a rigid position, and even shrinking a bit. In fact, it expands and contracts each year.
