Would Starmer campaign for Reform?

It's a PENSION, not a salary. Liz Truss now gets £115k per year until she's dead, along with every other ex-PM.

They can still work or do whatever they like on top.

This may well be why Burnham wants to be PM for a party that looks to be falling flat on its face with no chance of recovery. It's a few million quid in your bank, set you up for life.
They haven't got a days work in any of them.

It would end up like the (just as thankless) teaching/schools industry, with fewer folk wanting to do the job. Three ex-police have quit at my Missus' school recently, claiming the job demand is ridiculous. I would not want be be an MP, even if you paid me in gold pigs.

I often wonder why people who are very wealthy want the aggro of being PM, pres, etc. Rishi Sunak for example or even The Don. Is it for the challenge, vanity? Many moons ago it would be possibly be viewed as giving something back or civic duty, but not so sure now.

And how bad is you missus' school that it needs all those police?

You misunderstand the driving forces behind extreme wealth. It is more about 'power' & challenge than it is money or vanity.

Trump isn't a good businessman, you can cut thru' the anti-Trump propaganda & actually see that he has about the same level of wealth that his father handed to him on a plate. Rishy Washy I have no knowledge of but I always had him down as a just another self serving politician.
