Removing mortar from footpath

Sorry if this is in the wrong section but I'm looking to get some suggestions for an effective product to remove mortar from a tarmac footpath after our extension was done. Unfortunately the builder was a bit careless and didn't cover up the footpath. I've remove the snots it the flatter patches don't come off with a scraper or jet wash.

whats the best way to get dried cement off of a tarmac drive? The lad had the mixer set up with a sheet but somehow managed to get it under the sheet

You need a [brickwork] cleaner which is based on hydrochloric acid - which attacks the cement in mortar. Patio cleaners are typically for dirt and algae only.

Be careful with any use or splashes on any adjacent cement-based items.

Any you've used that you'd recommend? The build up is quote a lot in areas.

Sorry I've just been looking at some data sheets and it seems that hydrochloric acid can damage tarmac/bitumen

Generally hydrochloric acid based cleaners are the best and most efficient. Some other acids will also work but are less efficient/aggressive.

Any brick cleaner of a given type is much of a muchness and will perform the same. So there is no real preference in make but preference in contents.

Best advice would be to read the manufacturers guidance regarding suitability on tarmac/bitumen. Follow the dilution guidance, and hose the area straightaway afterwards - and maybe before too

That could work. It's the old gypsy "want your drive resurfacing?" trick!

It may need the whole drive doing though otherwise it will be patchy

This looks like it might be a good finishing product. In my case the raised mortar would still be visible. Really needs to be removed first.

I thought it might improve it cosmetically if you struggle to remove the mortar. I suspect it would probably colour the mortar at the same time as the tarmac.
