Stuck Pegler TRV

Hi all. I need to remove a rad tomorrow.

I suspect that the TRV pin is stuck. When I open the bleed valve after closing both ends the water pee'd out

I removed the head and tried to push the pin down. It would not move. The pin looked like it had black gunk around it. Should I tap it with a hammer or try to pull it up before trying to push it down.

I need to remove the rad to paper behind it tomorrow before the customer gets back from holiday.

Put a drop of penetrating oil on the pin,leave it for 20mins and tap the pin a few times,see if it frees up.
If you have a decorators cap to fit the TRV use it rather than the actuator head.
By the way ,water will come out the bleed valve for a little bit and then stop when both valves are closed fully.

I don't have the decorator cap but I plan to use a 15m end cap with a washer.

Would WD40 be sufficient?

Instead, you can use a small coin, placed in the TRV head, then the head refitted.

Yes, for peace of mind, but it the TRV goes to "off", some don't, you'll get no water out of it anyway.

Tnx, I have used my nicotine gum in the past to "glue" coins in decorator's caps in the past. Icky, but I also use nicotine gum to hold screws onto the end of the screwdriver when needed.

Even ickier... this week a mate and I made a nicotine snowman. Absent of carrots, I made the nose out of a diclofenac sodium tablet cut in half and the hat was a bit of foil from the tablet card.



Naturally, I haven't told the pub owner that it was made out of gum that we had been eating...

Just to update. I decided to swerve the rad removal.

The customer got a plumber in.

I hadn't realised that when you take the Peglar TRV head off, there is another section which needs to be removed to access the basic pin.

The plumber fitted a decorator's cap over the lower pin which stopped the water coming through.

I papered the section and refitted the rad today.

He mentioned that because she has a contract with British Gas, he will leave them to fit a new TRV at some point in the future.
