If you want to maintain peace then you have to prepare for war. Military cut backs do not help with keeping peace.

And May slashed police numbersYep, most of the cuts came under the tories![]()
Trumpf is preparing for peace, he said Irann’s nuclear program can be monitored by satellite. A little detour indeedIf you want to maintain peace then you have to prepare for war. Military cut backs do not help with keeping peace.

So do tell us, what should Starmer have done since he's come to power? Our armed forces were once the most feared and formidable forces in the world, We were respected by everyone and this wasn't that long ago. Once the redunancies and spending was cut it reduced our capacity drastically each year. This has gone on for more years than should have. When Starmer took over he was warned about the state of our forces and our ability to protect the UK, he knew during the Ukraine invasion and still didnt act on it. Now he is desperate to reverse this but it will take a good 5 years to get us back to where we were in the 80s. If he had acted on this 3 years ago we would only be a couple of years away from being fully armed again,. We now rely on buying in our military equipment from South Korea, the USA and other countries because it is the fastest route.

Heed the warnings the military commanders were giving him. Spend on the military, increase the budget that he has only just done. He is not a leader that can take us into a war.So do tell us, what should Starmer have done since he's come to power?
Starmer talks as if we only need to increase defence spending because of pressure from the likes of Trump, and he's showing principled resistance by dragging his heels, saying 3% by 2035 or something.Heed the warnings the military commanders were giving him. You say that "Starmer has done a good job keeping us out of the orange rapist/israeli war criminal's war.". He did not ensure the safety of our service personel already out there, he failed to adequetly secure Cyprus and expected everyone else to do it for us, embarrasing to say the least. Keeping out of offensive missions against Iran is one thing but to fail to respond in a defensive role is ridiculous. The Us asked to use our bases and he refused, then 36 hrs later did a U turn and allowed them. He is indecisive and has made the UK look like an absolute laughing stock over the Cypriot and Chagos issues. Makes all the tough guy talk, with nothing to back it up. He is an embarrassment to the UK.
Thank God for intelligent strong leaders. Imagine if we had a weak minded idiot crook like Trump? He is not a leader that can take us into a war.

and yet it is well predicted that we will highly likely be fighting with Russia within the next decade, probably sooner now because of the weaknesses Putin has seen within NATO. Trump cannot now be relied upon as a credible ally.Starmer talks as if we only need to increase defence spending because of pressure from the likes of Trump, and he's showing principled resistance by dragging hois heels, saying 3% by 2035 or something.

Keeping us out of offensive actions, yes but defensive actions are very weak.Thank God for intelligent strong leaders. Imagine if we had a weak minded idiot crook like Trump?![]()

We are, that won't stop us having to though.Good job, as you keep posting that we are too weak to go to war anyway![]()

The UAE have an amazing airforce, I don't think they will have much option other than to get involved. I hope they do.Saudi and UAE are still vocal about joining in, I hope they do. Netanyahu has suggested to the Crown Prince of Saudi that the only long term solution would be to construct a pipeline away from Hormuz, across Saudi direct to the Med, seems like a good solution.
This is the side of politics that I get more jaded with the older I get i.e. the 'we could do better than you' and 'here are the mistakes you're making' rhetoric from opposition parties when, 9/10, whoever is saying it didn't do better when they were in power or may even have instigated the issue. Or indeed we hear the same sort of rhetoric from parties that have never held power or last did decades upon decades ago. They have all been aware of the cuts and none has done anything regardless who started the cuts.
