My son said it didn’t work. He was right.

Had it about 10 years and doesn’t do a lot of work. Wife used to work at B&Q and got it for £5 as end of range (200ish mm blade so it is a useful beast).

Fuse OK, lead OK, took it apart and the DP switch neutral is staying open circuit. Short term fix to bypass that side of switch so it s now a single pole switch. I will look for a replacement switch as it doesn’t appear to come apart.

Is by-passing the neutral side of the switch a no-no or is it safe to use?

I have done it, while waiting for a new switch, but clearly not the best quality switch as it has failed, so suppose should not really do it, however likely has a double pole switch for use in countries without a polarised plug.

It is not a no-no.
And I have in occasion done this.

BUT it does make it less safe to use.

For example, we already know the switch is poor quality with the contacts sticking open.
Joining the Neutral side of the switch removes the operatunity for that side of the switch to switch off the machine.

And if the live side of the switch was to fail by say sticking closed or welding its contacts together, then you will be holding an operational saw that you have to switch off my pulling the plug out of the wall.
