Fell off, snapped off, whatever.
On the radiator by the front door. Walked past it this morning & saw it on the floor.
Nothing really should've clipped it but whatever, it's on the floor.

Would prefer to not have to call someone out to deal with this but at the same time I have been known to flood the living room before when undoing/tightening. Getting someone out is obviously going to cost but at the same time things like these can turn in to a ballache with trades folk because in my experience they're never interested in little jobs like this so you're constantly chasing trying to find someone willing to come out & sort it.

What's the process for getting this sorted to how it should be?

As in talk to me like I'm a dummy (don't just say replace it). Like do I need to be undoing the nut that's near the rad, do I just grip the metal collar thing that I think should be part of this TRV at the bottom that's still attached, do I grip the bit below it & undo that collar thing above it? Is it going to leak if so - do I need to be doing something to stop that? Etc etc etc.

OP,
As above, replace the valve.
Has your installation ever had a power flush - if not had one in recent years then why not do it now?
Why not go around your rads & look for signs of water streaks at the valves?

Nothing like trying to talk a ££ job into a several hundred quid job for a simple broken head

Poster #7,
Zoom down to the first pic in post #1 and what do you see?
a small weep of a leak from an o ring on a constantly moving pin doesnt indicate a slugged up system unless you have xray eyes

Come on mate, you can see the accumulated sludge gunk as well as I can - that sludge shouldn't be there, & there's only one place it came from.

Dont talk absolute nonsense its people like you who give this trade a bad name trying to talk up an absolute basic job .
Yeah its came from a weeping o ring on a metal pin that has started to rust pure and simple
Accumulated Sludge my ar5e

Poster #12,
The sludge came from the water in the installation.
Are you denying that there's no sludge?

Why the agi drama? Cant say I've ever been emotional about valves.
